KNOWING THE TRUTH CARRIES RESPONSIBILITIES

Romans 3:1-4  What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision? Much in every way! First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God. What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God's faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge." (NIV)

You can read the verses around this Bible passage from the Internet Bible: - in English, and many other languages

Paul the Apostle has just told his Roman readers that being a Jew, knowing the law and being circumcised cannot save them. They need Jesus the Messiah. So he then changes his argument to answer the question, "Is there no benefit to being a Jew?" Here Paul affirms the Jewish believers: yes, knowing the truth is much better than ignorance.

But knowledge carries responsibility. To know that God has spoken, obeying His instruction and telling others is the essence of wisdom. But to receive it and be indifferent is an indefensible crime against our Maker. To hold the 'word of life' and not pass it on to a dying world is spiritual slaughter by negligence. So God will always stay faithful to His covenant - to those who believed and acted by faith, He credited righteousness; but to those who refused to believe or obey He credited judgement.

In this age of mass information on the internet, we have lost the sense of privilege when we are told something. It is no longer personal. But God's Word is not like that. He is a person who has chosen to communicate with us. So knowing His Word carries personal responsibility, not just for ourselves but for others too. So share God's truth and show others the effects by doing it yourself!

Prayer:  Dear Lord. Thank You for entrusting people with Your Word. I am sorry when I have forgotten what a great privilege it is to be spoken to by the living God, when I have failed to honour You in obedience and when I have ignored my responsibility of sharing it with others. Thank You for this wake-up call and help me to be Your faithful and trusted servant as I act on what You have said to me through Your Word. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
